Literal there is more death then birth in the songs of Bob Dylan. Death as killing,slaughter, hanging etc. But when we see the songfrase as a methaphor we can think at the words of Carl Sandburg: A man may be born, but in order to be born he must first die, and in order to die he must first awake.And this is were many of these dylan songs are about: change.
